On May 14, 2020, the Utah DOT hosted a webinar on the new V2X project with Panasonic to bring awareness to UDOT’s efforts to further expand V2X technology, create a scalable solution to capture and analyze V2X data, and launch a cloud-based V2X Data Ecosystem (VDE) to enable data sharing, analytics, and innovation. There are four components to this project: onboard equipment (OBEs) generating BSMs every 1/10th of a second, RSE, software/applications to process data, and the Virtual Data Ecosystem (VDE). UDOT is also launching a V2X Data Access Project that will engage, collaborate, and share with all members of the V2X Data Access community; discover new and future use cases of V2X data; deliberate on technical approaches for accessing, consuming, and reporting on the data; and conduct exploratory research for improved safety, sustainability practices, transportation systems operations, and maintenance. UDOT has identified two initial use cases for data analysis and applications development: curve speed warning and spot weather impact warning. UDOT and Panasonic are actively engaging the V2X Data Access community in market research via surveys, interviews, and interactive activities.
